The 36th Regatta Time in Abaco, July 1 - 9, 2011, was a must-do event for cruisers and serious racers alike. Over a week of sociable parties and a series of five sailboat races take place in a most exotic venue. Each day, racers and regatta followers get to experience a new location along the Abaco's remote chain of out islands. Casual cruisers have just as much fun entering one or more of the five races as anyone, since this event is friendly to the newcomer, yet highly organized and professional. Curious cruisers are more than welcome to follow this long-time tradition, since those that do get to socialize with other mariners in the most beautiful tropical settings around. I don't race, but do follow the event and socialize with regatta entrants and bystanders. After a few years, it feels like coming home to a family reunion. Above are only a few photos of the fun that mariners have by coming to Regatta Time. It's a memorable, recommended experience for any cruiser able to take a few weeks off for a brief get-away to the Abacos. The beauty of this trip is that the Bahamas are only a short sail from Florida and the out islands are a boater's paradise. You can get away from the noise of mundane life and feel as if you're a million miles from anything.
